But look at these computer screens !!!!
I never thought that the size of a screen could ever be overkill, but when you stare at these .... man *that's* big.

Yes, as a consultant.
Until last year he worked one day a week at Steinberg Headquarters, but nowadays he enjoys himself making beatutiful music, developing some software and enjoying life.

That one screen looks to have been Photoshopped. Look at the white fringing that goes around it. _________________ http://www.cubendo.com |

I read that RME site article about a month ago...
...Charlie talks about Digital Musician and made it sound very promising...
...so I joined digitalmusician.net and installed the software...
...but anyone who belongs to BMI, ASCAP, or GEMA (or any collecting society) is not allowed to post their music...
...then, I experienced numerous glitches with the website functions and the DMR...
...and the sound quality for real time "live" peer online recording/jamming is so poor it is useless (worse than the lowest fidelity mp3 flange)...
...and forum support questions go unanswered for weeks on end...
...so I deleted my account and uninstalled everything.
Glad I didn't buy the "Pro Account" membership beforehand.
...and YES, the monitor does look photoshopped.
Happy Holidays!

Best delay;
Chop up the audio you want to delay and add a new track and put the audio/waves on your new track and make small pitch changes on every echo/delay - that will give you a cool delay - also if you do this by hand you can personalize the time difference. Don't let the grid decide what's best for your song. Find your own note/time... |

As I sit here looking at one Nuendo on 2 - 21" screens and another Nuendo on a 30" Cinema Display with vid on an external firewire ntsc monitor, there is NO SUCH THING as too much screen real estate. :)

I have been in Charlie's Studio and I can confirm that these monitors are real.
The photo might have photoshopped for other purposes, but this is an accurate view of Charlie's studio.

But this white border really looks strange. Aluminum ? I doubt that. I think we should put much more effort and manpower on finding the complete truth. _________________ Nuendo 5 64bit, Win7/64, EVGA X58 classified, i7 980x (six-core), 24 GByte RAM, RME RayDAT, 2xADI8QS, MOTU ME 128, UAD 2 Quad, Eventide H8000&Orville, TC System6000. Sorry, I have to go off-topic here 8-)
.... every time I see a picture of Karl Steinberg, I have that special feeling of deepest respect for a man that is amongst a dozen (or maybe slightly more) in his league. This friendly looking, modest man has influenced the history of music. I had the honour to meet him face to face several years ago and was delighted to get the same impression in Real Life, too.
May his computer screens be as big as a window! ;-)
... now back on our chair - err - back on topic. And a great 2008 to everyone! _________________ /Dietz

I can only second that.
I was really nervous the first time I met Charlie, but that was over within seconds.
He is a wonderful, friendly, helpfull, caring, modest and simple man.

As everyone should be...good to hear!

Then I just regret that the money I spend for steinberg products don't go (partly) to this man...maybe there are "royalties" for software just like in music thow...;-)
Regards

Just minutes ago I looked with some melancholy at an article about the Commodore C64, my first computer when I was 16. It is so astonishing what started with that machine - and how Charlie and his partner had a vision back then and revolutionized music recording several times, considering midi first, then the beginning of audio recording with computers, then breaking with dedicated dsp hardware while everyone still considered dsps as the only way to get serious audio done up until today with the words 'Virtual Studio Technology' having become totally fulfilled and normal and even electronic instruments included in that environment have become as normal as drinking water. I have great respect for him, for both having the vision but also for managing to put things into practice (that's where so many visioners fail!).
Knowing he's still using Ikea furniture is making him very likable too!
